OVERVIEW

A member of the prestigious Russell Group, the University of York is a dynamic, research-intensive university ranked at 148 by QS World University Rankings. The University was awarded Gold in Teaching Excellence Framework and is at 88.6% for overall student satisfaction in the National Student Survey. Students and staff have a range of opportunities to engage in an international experience, from study exchanges to summer schools. The campus is located within walking distance of York city centre, and is home to nine colleges and most departments. Some departments are also located in the city centre at the historic King’s Manor.

Five subject areas feature in the QS World University Rankings by Subject. Three subjects are ranked among the top 25 in the world. Social Policy and Administration (10), Archaeology (18) and English Language and Literature (22) all remain in the world top 30. History is ranked in the world top 50 and a further four subjects feature in the top 100: Development Studies, Linguistics, Psychology and Sociology. Arts and Humanities ranks 71st in the world and 15th in UK. A few subject areas are also ranked highly by Times Higher Education World University Rankings: Arts & Humanities is in the top 40, Life Sciences is in the top 150 and Social sciences is in the top 100.
