One-Time Boost to Address Backlogs
New Zealand has announced a one-off increase in the Parent Category Resident Visa quota for the financial year ending June 30, 2025. This adjustment raises the number of available visas for queue applicants to 2,331, an increase of 331 visas beyond the standard annual allocation of 2,000.
The Parent Resident Visa allows New Zealand citizens and residents to sponsor their parents for permanent residency, facilitating family reunification. The overall cap remains at 2,500 visas, comprising 2,000 queue applicants and 500 ballot applicants. This additional quota applies only to applicants who have already received approval in principle, while the ballot allocation remains unchanged.
Key Changes & Income Requirements
– The queue increase aims to reduce the backlog of approved applications.
– Sponsorship income thresholds were revised in October 2022, making the visa more accessible.
– From February 28, 2025, the median wage will be NZD 69,804.80, setting the minimum income requirement at:
– NZD 104,707.20 for one parent
– NZD 139,609.60 for two parents
– The Expression of Interest (EOI) system continues to determine ballot selection, with draws occurring every three months.
