The 2019 QS World University Rankings ranked Swinburne in the world’s top 400 universities, placing them in the top 3 percent of universities worldwide. Swinburne was ranked #45 in the 2019 Top 50 Under 50 list, and recognised as having one of the best design schools. In terms of student satisfaction, Swinburne is in the top three Victorian universities by Quality Indicators for Learning and Teaching (2017). Work-Integrated Learning program offers six- and 12-month paid work placements. Swinburne is ranked in the top 200 for Engineering & Technology and top 250 for Physical science and top 300 for Computer Science.

Swinburne has invested in learning facilities and new buildings including a $100 million Advanced Manufacturing and Design Centre and an Advanced Technologies Centre that includes a state-of-the-art Smart Structures Laboratory for research into structural engineering. Swinburne has campuses across Melbourne (Hawthorn, Croydon and Wantirna) and a campus in Malaysia and provides quick access to public transport.
